-"Describe a time when you have seen a giraffe."
-"What was the giraffe doing?" -"What are some things you noticed about the appearance of the giraffe?" -"What do you think giraffes eat?" -"Do you think giraffes have always looked the way they look today?" -"Do you think giraffes only live in zoos?" -"How long do you think a giraffe's neck is?" -"What would you like to learn about giraffes?" |
Giraffes are all about standing TALL & so can my second graders! Standing tall & believing in yourself in order to complete assigned work is one of the most important parts of the school day!

Literacy:
Students will be introduced to "Giraffe's Can't Dance" written by Giles Andreae. One major objective will be to recreate the dances found within the storybook. Mathematics: Students will review the measures on a ruler and how to use it. One major objective will be to measure a giraffe's neck that they create in both centimeters and inches. The children will review 1-10 multiplication problems. Another major objective will be to finger-paint a number (less than 10) of spots on their giraffe and match up with a partner and multiply the two numbers together. Science: Students will learn about the different adaptations of giraffes over time. One major objective will be for students to experiment with instruments and songs in order to put on a puppet theater explaining different adaptions. Social Studies: Students will study the habitats and locations of different species of giraffes on the African continent. One major objective will be for students to practice the movement of a giraffe in a "tower" (pack) as they move toward their destination on a map, and they will share facts about the habitat of their assigned type of giraffe with the class. |
